Yesterday marked the 28th Annual Doodah Parade. A parade which celebrates freedom of speech, through humor. Participants in the parade made fun of mainstream suspects like: Anthony Weiner, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Terrelle Pryor, Charlie Sheen, John Kasich and many others dim-wits.
NYC was recently in the news again for brainless absurdity. NYC cops pulled over a female cyclist and almost wrote her a ‘ticket’ for wearing a skirt while riding a bike claiming that its ‘too distracting.’ The woman ended up not getting cited b/c she is not from America (read the article here: http://www.dutchdailynews.com/girls-on-bicycles/)
I about fell out of my chair while reading this. I felt my blood pressure rising and I’m sure my coworker saw smoke coming out of my ears. After a few choice words and walking off the anger, I thought to myself, ‘what can I do since I’m not there?’ I talked it through with a coworker and ‘Put a skirt on it’ Ride was given birth.
About fifteen of us – men and women, came together to make fun of and demonstrate against this comical and foolheaded ban currently happening in one of the most diverse cities in the world.
NYC – you can legalize gay marriage (which I’m thrilled about) but you have the time to ban female cyclists expressing their freedoms while riding their bikes, what’s next – fining women wearing exposed sports bras while running? DO SOME REAL WORK!
